Giovanni Antonio Battarra (1714-1789) was a clergyman from Rimini studying geology, physics and natural science. He describes about 250 different fungi with finely engraved plates. A good copy of this rare and charming classic with very nice illustrations. On the title page, the heraldic lynx of the famous Accademia dei Lincei elegantly touches a little fungus. Aside, an owl sits amidst a group of mushrooms - and the motto says in Greek: "We study mushrooms, we don't eat them." A fine copy, with only very light spotting.
