p (1)-100: 8 col. plates with 126 illustrations
Volbracht 2215. - Unknown to Uellner. The author, an engineer, chemist and art professor from Stuttgart, studied mushrooms not only with a microscope, but also with his own stomach, he explains in the introduction. He tasted all fungi except the death cap. The result of being so fond of dainties by scientific curiosity were several cases of serious mushroom poisoning, from which he wants to protect his readers. Good descriptions, but the coloured figures are rather poor. Original paper-binding. 14,5 cm

383 WEBERBAUER, Otto: Die Pilze Nord-Deutschlands mit besonderer Berücksichtigung Schlesiens. Heft I [ - II] mit sechs [ - zwölf] nach der Natur gezeichneten colorirten Tafeln. Breslau: J. U. Kern's Verlag 1873-1875
p (i, iii), (1-2), 3-10; (i), (11)-18: 12 hand-coloured lith. plates
Volbracht 2238; Stafleu 16.937; Nissen 2121. - Very rare work with beautiful plates on the fungi of Northern Germany and Silesia. Otto Weberbauer (1846-1881) was born in Breslau (Wroclaw) in Silesia and later lived in Bad Landeck (now Ladek-Zdroj) as a painter and naturalist, studying butterflies, plants, snakes and fungi. He was of weak health, but a gifted artist, painting landscapes and very fine mycological plates. Unfortunately, Weberbauer refused to publish more than two fascicules of the work, and he died at the age of 34. (Orbituary at www.bhl-europe.eu/static/a04tmpn3/a04tmpn3_full_ocr.txt). The plates are unfortunately affected by foxing. This is stronger on the back of plates. Also the margins of the illustrations are affected (especially on plates 9-12). Fortunately, the figures of fungi have been printed on colored backgrounds, so the soiling does not harm too much the beauty of the paintings. The copy has been bound with the textpages and the large plates folded. Very nice half-leather with gilt title on spine, 37,5 x 44 cm
