Volbracht 2136; Stafleu 15315; Uellner 1798; Nissen 2010, Krieger p 23; Ainsworth p 28. - Not the British reprint from 1935, but the very rare original Latin edition of this work, presenting some of the finest mycological plates ever published. Louis-René Tulasne (1815-1885) studied law. He worked as a public notary for a few years and then became a private scientist at Paris, dedicating himself to botany and the Christian religion. His brother Charles Tulasne (1815-1884) was a physician in Paris. The brothers are most famous for their fundamental study on truffles (Fungi hypogaei, 1851) and this extraordinary work with the finely drawn and engraved plates by Charles Tulasne. A good copy, with slight browning or spotting to text and plates (a bit stronger in voi 1). A small tear to title to vol 1 repaired, a few corners of plates or text-pages with knits in corners. Bound in contemporary half-leather with gilt spines. 35 cm
