Pier' Antonio Micheli (1669-1737) is called the founder of mycology, he discovered the spores of mushrooms under the microscope. He was professor of botany in Pisa and curator of the Orto Botanico di Firenze. In his main work, he enumerates more than 900 species of fungi and depicts many on 30 fine fungi-plates.
Title printed in red and black. A good copy, with a very slight yellowish water-stain in upper margin of pages and plates. Bound in contemporary pigskin, slightly soiled and worn, corners repaired. Quarto. 31 cm
