Geoffroys observations are the first detailed text on truffles in french language. He presumes that the black spots appearing in truffles are seeds (graines). The same question is treated in the second paper on the "Principales parties des fleurs" (p 207-230), when Geoffroy discusses (p 218) if the powder hidden between the lamellae (feuillets) of other fungi might be seeds. In the third paper on "La nature des plantes" Marchant observes and illustrates Xylaria polymorpha with its spores (p 99-108, 1 folded plate). With many more articles on physics, anatomy, chemistry, botany, geometry, astronomy etc. Very nice copy, bound in full leather, gilt decorated spine. 25 x 19,5 cm
