 | 9 BATTARRA, Giovanni Antonio: Fungorum agri Ariminensis historia. Compilata aeneisque tabulis ornata quam sub auspiciis eminentissimi ac reverendissimi principis Joachimi Portocarrerii cardinalis amplissimi publici juris fecit. Faventiae: Typis Ballantianis 1755 p (i)-vii, 1-80: 40 engraved plates Volbracht 90; Stafleu 359; Uellner 63; Nissen 95; Pfister p 21. - First edition of this beautiful Italian book. Giovanni Antonio Battarra (1714-1789) was a clergyman from Rimini studying geology, physics and natural science. He describes about 250 different fungi with finely engraved plates. A good copy of this rare and charming classic with very nice illustrations. On the title page, the heraldic lynx of the famous Accademia dei Lincei elegantly touches a little fungus. Aside, an owl sits amidst a group of mushrooms - and the motto says in Greek: "We study mushrooms, we don't eat them." A fine copy, with only very light spotting. In an unobtrusive old hand, page-numbers have been added to the illustrations.Bound in contemporary green boards with gilt title on spine; 26,5 cm
