174 LETELLIER, Jean-Baptiste Louis: Figures de champignons, servant de supplément aux planches de Bulliard, peintes d´après nature et lithographiées. Paris: Meilhac 1829-1842
(i), 108 mostly hand-coloured lithographs (Nr. 603-710).

Volbracht 1169; Stafleu-Cowan 4442; Krieger p. 127; Junk: Rara 177; Nissen BBI 1181. - One of the rarest of all fungi-iconographies. Letellier was a physician and mycologist living in Saint Leu west of Paris. He collected fungi together with Gillet, but precise data of his life are not known. His first mycological works were published in 1826: Histoire et description des champignons and Dissertation sur les propriétés alimentaires, médicales et vénéneuses des champignons qui croissent aux environs de Paris. Three years later, he began this important supplement for Bulliard's Champignons de France, depicting species not mentionned in Bulliard's work and adding new taxa like Boletus tuberosus or Boletus crocipodius. The 108 plates, published over a period of 13 years, are numbered 603 to 710 (following the 602 numbered plates in Bulliard's Herbier de la France). A text-volume was announced in the printed covers of the 18 instalments of the work, but it has never been published. One of the original covers is inserted at the beginning of the volume. A second edition of the plates (unknown to Stafleu, cf. Volbracht No 1169), was distributed about 1840, with some plates lithographed by other printers.
We offer a very fine copy of the first issue: Plates nice and clean, with good colouring. Only a few plates with light soiling on verso. Plate 692 with a discrete blue spot (from an old ink-inscription) in margin, affecting also verso of the preceeding plate 691. Plates 705-710 from the last instalment creased in the middle. The copy has some blank pages inserted at end of the volume. Bound in decorated contemporary half-leather, slightly rubbed and soiled, with raised bands and gilt title on spine. 29 x 24,5 cm
